Daar komt de K-30 toch wel goed uit. Voor hoge iso's is de K-5 zeker beter, merk ik ook met mijn K-01. Ik doe nooit de ruisreductie van de camera, want Pentax smeert iets teveel in het beeld met hun ruisonderdrukking.

Overigens: dpreview is eigenlijk extreem positief over de K-30. Hun belangrijkste reservatie is - natuurlijk - de video mogelijkheden. Maar als een DSLR voor mensen die vooral fotograferen zijn ze zeer lovend. De K-30 heeft een Silver award gekregen en blijkbaar is een goud wel serieus overwogen blijkens een opmerking van een admin op de Pentax talk gedeelte van de forum:

The Final Word

If you are predominantly a stills shooter it is very hard to not recommend the Pentax K-30. It handles well, comes with an intuitive and thought-out user interface, has an excellent feature set for its price point, including weather-sealing and a fast 6 fps continuous shooting mode, and offers excellent image quality across the ISO range which can be further improved by shooting and processing Raw files.

As you can see most of the bullet points in the 'Cons' list at the top of this page are related to the K-30's video mode and if you are planning to regularly use the K-30 for capturing video the story is a slightly different one. While it records smooth and detailed 1080p video footage with no dedicated movie button, no external microphone socket and no ability to use AF during video recording the K-30 is not the obvious choice for any photographers who are thinking about venturing into more serious videography. Competitors such as Canon with the EOS 650D/Rebel T4i or Sony with the SLT-A65 offer more compelling products for this type of user.

For anyone else the Pentax K-30 is a very easy recommendation. It's at the top of its class in terms of feature set and high ISO performance, with Raw files that offer more processing flexibility than any other camera in its class. You'll have to decide for yourself if the K-30 is good enough to make you switch from another system but for existing Pentax shooters or new DSLR users focus on stills photography the Pentax K-30 is an excellent choice and easily earns itself our sliver award.

In the Pentax K-30 we see the excellent image quality of its Sony CMOS sensor, particularly with respect to high sensitivity and a very fine color depth that matches that of many full-frame reflex cameras. As for dynamic range, however, we see a slight retreat when compared to the Pentax K-5, which has the advantage of an 80 ISO setting (and thus more generous exposure latitude). At higher sensitivities, the K-30 sensor performance differs from its competitors’ because of significant smoothing that limits noise but affects image sharpness.

Overall, it's pretty hard not to like the Pentax K-30. For $850 (body only), you get a well-equipped, weather-sealed D-SLR that takes great photos. Sure, I wish it had better battery life, stereo sound recording, and HDMI output, but aside from those issues, there's little to complain about. Whether you're a Pentax enthusiast or someone looking for a first D-SLR, the K-30 is certainly well worth looking at.

Hier de conclusie van Popular Photography, een aardig Amerikaan blad.

Ik zeg niet dat de concurrentie de K-30 het nakijken geeft, of andersom. Ik denk ook dat dat vrij persoonlijk is. Wil je bijvoorbeeld een draaibaar schermpje, dan zul je de K-30 niet overwegen.

Niet alleen het (in andere tests minder opvallend genoemde) item noemen wat beter zou kunnen. Overall lijkt dit niets af te doen aan het advies.

Ik zeg ook nergens dat de K-30 een slechte camera is. Als ik die conclusie al trek is dat mijn eigen conclusie en zo denk ik dat een ieder het beste zijn of haar eigen conclusie kan trekken.

Okay, ik kijk misschien ook met een PENTAXbril, maar slechts één onderdeel er uithalen vind ik niet juist

Ik wel. Hoe belangrijk dit onderdeel is voor jou, weet ik niet. Wat je ermee doet, weet ik ook niet, en dat moet je ook helemaal zelf weten. Maar het is niet de eerste keer dat Pentax op AF-gebied achterloopt op de rest. De *Ist serie had ook al dezelfde layout met 11 punten. Pentax lijkt er wat dat betreft gewoon weinig aan te doen.

Nou, ik vind eigenlijk dat je van een nieuw uitgekomen camera mag verwachten dat die minstens op hetzelfde niveau staat als de concurrentie, ongeacht het merkje dat boven de lensmount staat. Nou weet ik wel dat autofocus maar 1 aspect is, maar ten eerste is het al jarenlang een verbeterpunt bij Pentax en ten tweede is het voor mij wel een belangrijk aspect.

Het is niet zo dat het iets onbekends is ... lijkt me zeker een aandachtspuntje waar de ontwikkelafdeling extra aandacht aan gegeven moet hebben.
Ik heb toch al een aantal opmerkingen gelezen dat dit een rede was om uit te kijken naar een ander merk. En om nu veel $$ uit te geven aan een nieuwe camera, terwijl je weet dat ......
Gaat zeker meespelen als er keuzes gemaakt gaan worden.

We’d recommend the K-30 to anyone looking for a sub-$1000 model to take to an environment where dust or moisture are a constant concern. Even if that’s not an issue, the K-30 still handles great and offers performance similar to its peers from Canon and Nikon at this price point. It’s not for absolute beginners and it’s certainly not for video shooters, but the K-30—when paired with an appropriate lens—can go places other DSLRs at this price simply cannot.
